1910's Decade

Olen pitämässä tässä kuussa kymmenluku bileet, teemabileet on parhaita! Siitä tuli mieleen, että voisin tehdä blogiin  teemapostauksia, koskien jokaista kymmenlukua kohti 1900- luvulla. Samalla mietiskelen muodissa käyneitä, mielestäni hyviä ja huonompia juttuja, miettin samalla miten silloiset tapahtumat ja kauneusihanteet on vaikuttaneet sen aikaiseen muotiin. Näistä postauksista taitaa tulla aika pitkiä, joten jos mielenkiintoa vaan riittää, niin onpahan pällisteltävää..

Naisten hiustyyli oli 1910-luvulla elegantteja ylösvedettyjä hiustyylejä. "Gipson Girl" hiustyyli oli kaikkein suosituin ja muodikkain. Juhlatilanteissa naiset käyttivät hiuksissaan koristeina sulkia, helmiä, hiusnauhoja. Kymmenluvun lopulla ja 20-luvun alulla muotiin tuli "bob cut" (myötäilevä polkkatukka) (flapper style), naiset alkoivat pitää hiuksiaan lyhyenä,. Hiuksiin käytettiin erilaisia peruukkeja, lisäkkeitä, kiharoita jne..

Women's hair style was in the 1910s elegant and drawn up. "Gipson Girl" hair style was the most popular and fashionable. Formal situations women wore their hair decorative feathers, beads and hair ribbons. In the late 10th and early 20th centery "bob cut" (flabber style) was under way into fashion. Women began to keep their hair short. They use postiches, small individuals wigs, curls or false buns that were incorporated into the hairstyle.

Naiset käyttivät asusteina tähän aikaan mm. käsineitä, hattuja, laukkuja, takkeja, puuhkia, turkis shaaleja tai huiveja, korsettaja ja sukkahousuja 


Accessories for women was: gloves, hats, handbags, jackets, fur stoles or scarves, corsets or stockings.


Suuret hatut, jotka jättivät kasvot varjoon oli suurta muotia tämän aikakauden alkupuolella. Loppua kohden hatut pienenivät ja niissä oli tasainen lieri.


Large hats with wide brims and broad hats with brims that shadowed the face were the hot fashion in the early years of the 1910’s. Throughout the decade hats gradually shrunk to smaller hats with flat brims.

Ensimmäisen maailman sodan aikana, kun miehet lähtivät sotimaan, täytyi naisten jäädä tekemään raskastakin työtä, joka oli alunperin ollut miesten. Siksi naisten pukeutuminen muuttui pääasiassa mukavuushaluiseksi. Kevyemmät kankaat, kirkkaammat värit ja löysemmät tyylit tulivat yleiseksi.


As a result of the World War I and many of the men away to fight, women were having to work and take over many of the jobs that had been predominately done by men. Therefore, women began dressing more for comfort. Lighter fabrics, bright colors, and looser styles became common.

The Gibson Girl was the "ideal" women of the 1910’s. Around the middle of the 1910’s, the era of the Gibson Girl came to an end. The next fashion that was the hot item was the “hobble skirt” (a skirt made of stiff fabric that fit close to a woman's legs with a special inner garment to keep the skirt from splitting it’s seams).

Näiden hameiden lisäksi yleistä oli , turbaanit, lampunvarjostin tunikat ja hameet. Levetä takit joissa oli floppy kaulukset olivat suosittuja kohti vuosikymmenen loppua. Turkit olivat suosittuja sodan aikana.

Aside from hobble skirts, ethnic motifs and silhouettes, turbans, lampshade tunics and skirts were the fashionable trends of the decade. Wide coats with floppy collars were popular toward the end of the decade. Fur coats were popular during the war.

 1900- luvulla tuli muotiin korkokengät, joissa on matala korko ja niitä käytettiin päivällä. Iltaisin käytettiin hieman korkeampia korkoja, joissa oli remmit joilla ne sai kunnolla kiinni jalkoihin tanssittaessa. Yöpuuhiin sopi vain Boudoirin kengät, jotka olivat viettelevät. Ne tehtiin satiinista ja silkistä joissa oli tylli rusetteja. 


 By 1910 small heels had come into fashion for daytime wear. High cut shoes were worn by evenings, these shoes have straps to hold onto the feet for dancing. By night in bedroom you need to have only Boudoir shoes, made from satin and silk, with tulle bows.

Merkittäviä tapahtua / Some notable events in the 1910’s include:

•  Ensimmäinen maailmansota / World War I began in 1914, centered in Europe. The war lasted for 4 years, ending in 1918.

• Titanicin uppoaminen / The sinking of the Titanic occurred on April 15, 1912 with more than 1500 people losing their lives.

• Venäjän vallankumous / The Russian Revolution began in 1917.

• Henry Ford keksi liukuhihna tuotannon / Henry Ford developed the first moving assembly line in 1913 revolutionizing the way automobiles were manufactured and introducing the notion of “mass production”. This discovery influenced the manufacturing industry for many various products.

• Kesäaika otettiin käyttöön vuonna 1918 / The practice of Daylight Savings Time was introduced in 1918.

Music in the 1910’s: The 1910's were called the Ballroom Decade.  Many of the trendier restaurants were equipped with dance floors.   Ragtime, blues, and jazz also continued to be popular styles of music.

Popular songs of the 1910's included:

• "Alexander's Ragtime Band" (Irving Berlin)
• "Danny Boy"
• "You Made Me Love You" (Al Jolson)
• "Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life"
• "The Aba Daba Honeymoon"
• and "All I Do is Dream of You"
